He has never let Arsenal down – Gunners legend backs David Ospina Champions League call

first_imgArsene Wenger will NOT be taking a Champions League gamble by starting David Ospina against Olympiacos on Tuesday night, according to Nigel Winterburn. The Gunners boss revealed in his pre-match press conference that the back-up goalkeeper could get the nod to play ahead of Petr Cech. For many, bringing in Ospina would represent a big risk for Arsenal given Wenger has admitted that his side cannot afford to drop any more points at home in the Champions League after their opening group stage defeat. But Winterburn insists the 31-year-old, like Cech, is a safe pair of hands and will not let his manager down if he does play.He told talkSPORT: “I’m not so sure it is a huge risk. “Cech is the number one goalkeeper now at Arsenal but since Ospina came to the football club, I can’t remember on many occasions, if any, that he has been fault for any goals.“He had a strong season when he came into the team last season. He has not let the team down this season.“He is not a big goalkeeper but he tries to command his area. I’m sure he can do a fantastic job if that switch is made this evening.”last_img read more
