Funding & Transparency – Marc Etches writes open letter to industry stakeholders

first_img Share Marc Etches the Chief Executive of independent industry charity GambleAware has written an open letter to industry stakeholders regarding funding and transparency for sector problem gambling initiatives. As previously detailed, Etches states that current voluntary donation system is failing, with GambleAware set to be 60% below its funding target for its year-to-date operations. As Leader of GambleAware, Etches states that funding needs to be drastically increased in order for the charity to aid ongoing treatment and research for problem gambling, which will aid all industry stakeholders.Starting on April 2018, GambleAware will ask all industry operators to ‘self-certify’ what proportion of Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) their donations to GambleAware represents, and will publish details of donations on its website. The contents of Marc Etches letter is as follows;_________________Dear AllI am writing to let you know of our concerns regarding the current level of the industry’s funding of GambleAware, and actions we are taking to ensure greater transparency in the future. Specifically,The current voluntary system is not delivering the level of funding the Responsible Gambling Strategy Board (RGSB) has determined is required to meet the demands placed on GambleAware by the National Responsible Gambling Strategy (the Strategy): Winning Post: Swedish regulator pushes back on ‘Storebror’ approach to deposit limits August 24, 2020 The level of funding required in the future is likely to increase significantly: Share UKGC launches fourth National Lottery licence competition August 28, 2020 Related Articles From 1st April 2018, GambleAware will ask all companies to ‘self-certify’ what proportion of Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) their donations to GambleAware represents, and will publish details of donations on its website.Given the charity’s objectives, trustees are mindful of what is in the best interests of those who it is committed to help when it comes to advocating for the continuation of the current ‘voluntary donation’ arrangements. While some companies are relatively generous, the industry more widely has yet to demonstrate that it is sufficiently willing to meet the current target, much less that it is minded to voluntarily meet the increased funding that will be necessary to improve research, education and treatment services to the extent that GambleAware and others think appropriate. On this basis, GambleAware has determined that it would wish to see the introduction of a statutory levy. Trustees have made this position clear to both the Gambling Commission and RGSB. In the meantime, we will continue to work positively and collaboratively to encourage all gambling companies to contribute a full and fair share of the relatively modest cost of funding GambleAware to deliver what it has been tasked by the Strategy.Yours sincerly,________________ The number of problem gamblers is now estimated at 430,000;Less than 2% are receiving treatment, representing a significant gap in services; With 2 million adults ‘at risk’ and nearly half a million 11 to 15-year-old children gambling every week in England and Wales (including 9,000 defined as ‘problem gamblers’), there is a need for a significant investment in education and harm-prevention activity. The industry fell 20% short last year (ending 31st March 2017)Seven months into the current year (ending 31st March 2018) the industry is 60% short;Such were our concerns about cash-flow in August, we notified the Gambling Commission. Punters backing the Blues for historic campaign

first_img StumbleUpon ESI Digital – No Drama Please… Esports growth should be treated as business as usual August 20, 2020 Flutter moves to refine merger benefits against 2020 trading realities August 27, 2020 Submit Related Articles Share Share ‘Deal maker’ Rafi Ashkenazi ends Flutter tenure August 27, 2020 Manchester City’s scintillating start to the season has left punters with renewed optimism that the Blues could be in for a memorable campaign. Pep Guardiola’s side have already booked their place in the second round of the Champions League and have cruised to an eight point lead at the top of the Premier League, whilst retaining an undefeated record. Katie Baylis – BetfairBetfair’s Katie Baylis emphasised to SBC that there is a genuine feeling of belief in the air that City could go the whole campaign without suffering a defeat, Baylis said: “At the moment Man City are 9/2 to go the rest of the league season unbeaten and it doesn’t look beyond them to achieve this feat. Of course it’s been more than 10 years since a team managed to do this with the Arsenal Invincibles of 2003/2004, but the dominance City have shown so far means it’s definitely within reach.”Nonetheless, for City and Guardiola winning silverware will be the priority as an unprecedented quadruple is still a possibility for the Eastland’s side, although Betway’s Alan Alger believes that because of ‘injuries, cup draws and form’ to achieve what nobody else has done before and win the quadruple will be ’very difficult’ for City. Alger also revealed that the starting price for City to win The Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble, was 150/1 and if they could pull it off it would cost Betway nearly 250k. On the other hand, the quadruple was 750/1 at the start of the season and it would hit Betway for over 900k. Alger continued: “At the moment City are flying in the Premier League, scoring goals for fun and breaking all kinds of records and it looks unlikely that anyone would stop them if they keep this level up and continue to take points off the ‘big six’. Alan Alger, BetwayRealistically though it will be extremely difficult for City to keep up this level and there is still time for the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea or Spurs to catch them. There is a long way to go and City still have to play Man Utd and Spurs twice as well as Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. The upcoming winter months are also going to be a massive mental and physical test and stats show how City have struggled during this period and dropped several points.“For now the City squad is being rotated effectively with everyone playing their part in this great start to the season, but an injury to a key player, especially if it’s at the back, would see City struggle. There are always question marks over the defence and City still look vulnerable at the back. A defender should be signed in January to help the cause, preferably a left back due to the long term injury to Mendy and the question marks over Delph who is currently deputising well in that position.”Alger added: “City do look like running away with the Premier League this season but it is too early, given all the above, to think that there is no way back for the others. Look at what happened the last two years when they went heavily odds-on early.”The unplayable form of Kevin De Bruyne has been one of the key factors in the renewed faith of Pep Guardiola’s side this season, after only ten Premier League games the Belgian is already the runaway favourite to be crowned Premier League player of the season, Baylis stated that: “KDB is 4/6 to be PFA player of the year and on the form shown so far looks very hard to beat, with Harry Kane next in the betting at 4/1.”Many pundits have even claimed the KDB could be next in line to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or, however Baylis claimed that: “It’s not very likely he will win the Ballon d’Or and is just a 66/1 shot to win it this time around.”last_img read more
