(LIVE SCORECARD | BALL-BY-BALL UPDATES)England (2nd innings): 16.35 IST: India manage to break England’s resistance late in the day by getting the wickets of openers Hameed and Cook. Ashwin gave the first breakthrough by sending back Hameed for 25 trapped leg before and then Jadeja striking in the last over by dismissing the England skipper for 54. England at stumps were 87/2 and needing 318 more runs to win. Thanks for tuning in and tomorrow could be a cracker of a day. Till then goodbye. 16.29 IST: One more over to go for the day and England have done exceptionally well to stonewall India. Hint of reverse for Umesh Yadav in this over. 16.17 IST: Cook leading from the front as he notches up his 53rd Test half-century. Gritty stuff from the England skipper! 16.08 IST: Joe Root joins Cook at the crease and it would be spin trial for both of them with Ashwin and Jadeja bowling in tandem. After getting the breakthrough, things happening for India. 15.58 IST: Out. Finally Ashwin gives India the breakthrough by trapping Haseeb Hameed lbw for 25 and breaking the stand of 75 runs. The young opener too could not have done much about it with the delivery really keeping low. ENG 75/1 15.48 IST: NOT OUT! Ashwin bowls a loopy ball around off, Cook comes forward to the pitch of it and looks to defend but misses and is rapped on the pads. Huge shout for LBW turned down. Ashwin straightaway asks Kohli to take a review and they take it out of desperation. Time for the Hawk Eye. The impact is on umpire’s call and hence, it cannot be overturned. Cook survives a scare yet again and India lose both their reviews. England 255 and 72/0, need 333 more to beat India 455 and 204advertisementCheck out that high left elbow ???England are past 50 with an hour left in the day #INDvENGFollow live: https://t.co/u1h9LWMIkX pic.twitter.com/GEjSNqTIeg England Cricket (@englandcricket) November 20, 201614.43 IST: England have 4 sessions to survive or in the hindsight, they can still go for the target provided they have wickets in hand but it is still far away. They still need 363 runs to win and it can be an uphill task if the Indian bowlers come in to their own. The hosts are still in the driver’s seat and a wicket or two can turn things around. Will the English side keep on frustrating the home side or will India find a way out? England 255 and 42/0, trail India 455 and 204 by 363 runs14.35 IST: Umesh Yadav starts proceedings after tea. England 255 and 40/0, trail India 455 and 204 by 365 runsTEA Solid start ??? The English openers have been resolute in their defense and have seen off the new ball with ease. Indian spinners have bowled well but haven’t got much purchase from the track yet. Will this tactic to block keep on working for them? They are playing nonchalantly at the moment and the pitch is behaving pretty normal at the moment. There is slow turn and Cook and Hameed have negotiated it calmly. England 255 and 40/0 at tea, need 365 more to beat India 455 and 20414.07: Umesh Yadav comes back for a bowl. He will bowl from the end from which Broad was bowling earlier. May be a good move just before Tea. England 255 and 40/0, trail India 455 and 204 by 365 runs 13.22 IST: DRINKS! England have been cautious in their approach in chase of 405. Meanwhile, India have already deployed spin from both ends. England 255 and 20/0 in 14 overs, trail India 455 and 204 by 385 runsHaseeb Hameed (Reuters Photo) 13.00 IST: England start their chase of a challenging 405 runs. England 255 and 17/0 in 7 overs11.50 IST: WICKET! The crucial 42-run last wicket stand comes to an end. Moeen Ali bowls it flatter outside off, Shami comes forward and looks to defend but is beaten by the ball skidding through. Bairstow takes the bails off in a jiffy and makes a confident appeal. The umpire goes upstairs for the stumping appeal. The replays roll in and it looks like Shami’s back foot is just planted on the crease. There is nothing in and the TV umpire is satisfied with the replays and rules it out. India 455 and 204 all out, set England (255) 405-run targetGood comeback by England today to bowl out India in the first session itself! They picked up 7 wickets and it was started by Stuart Broad who dismissed Rahane and Ashwin in his superb first spell. The rest of the batters couldn’t make their mark and kept giving away their wickets. Rashid was joined the party as well and picked up four wickets. Stuart Broad finished with four too. The last pair frustrated England though and took India’s lead past 400.advertisementVirat Kohli was a class above once again. On a pitch where the batsmen were struggling to get their bat on ball, he was middling it and scored at a pretty good rate too but unfortunately was dismissed when Stokes took a stunning catch. So England need 405 runs to win. It’s going to be really difficult as the track has started to misbehave. 11.49 IST: India’s lead now crosses 400 as Jayant Yadav and Mohammad Shami put on 42 runs for the 10th wicket.11.11 IST: WICKET! Rashid gets his fourth! Getting rewards for his probing lines and lengths. Bowls it slow through the air on middle and leg, Umesh Yadav with minimal foot movement looks to heave across the line but misses it completely. The ball spins and bounces away sharply to extract a faint edge and the keeper does the rest. India 455 & 162/9, lead England 255 by 362 runs 11.03 IST: WICKET! Jadeja departs in the hunt for quick runs. Tossed up on the stumps, Jadeja kneels and goes for the slog sweep. Doesn’t time it that well and hits it right down the throat of Moeen Ali at deep mid-wicket who gets underneath it and takes a simple catch. Rashid gets his third and he has bowled pretty well. India 455 & 162/8, lead England 255 by 362 runs 10.43 IST: WICKET! How did Stokes catch that? Rashid bowls it slower through the air outside off, spinning away. Kohli lunges forward and flashes at it hard but only manages to get a thick outside edge. It flies to the right of Stokes and he dives athletically to grab a stunner. It is a terrific reflex catch and the crowd goes silent. A superb knock from the skipper comes to an end and he misses out on a ton. India 455 & 151/7, lead England 255 by 351 runs 10.30 IST: Virat Kohli is being attended by the physio as he had hurt his left hand. Meanwhile, drinks break has been taken. 10.17 IST: WICKET! Umpire’s call! Adil Rashid bowls a googly around off, Saha lunges forward to defend but misses the variation and gets hit on the pads. The umpire takes his time and raises his finger as England appeal for a leg before. Saha waits for a while and decides to take a review. Replays show the ball would have clipped the leg stump so that is umpire’s call which is out. India 455 & 130/6, lead England 255 by 330 runsStuart Broad (AP Photo) 10.11 IST: WICKET! Broad picks up another wicket and this time no review by Ashwin. Fuller length ball outside off, angled in, Ashwin tries to defend but gets a faint edge to the keeper behind. The umpire raises his finger and Ashwin starts walking back. Broad picks up his fourth wicket, he has bowled really well here and he’s not even hundred percent fit. India 455 & 127/5, lead England 255 by 327 runs advertisement10.03 IST: Broad to Ashwin – NOT OUT! Inside edge. Good length ball landed just outside off, Ashwin tries to defend but gets hit on the pads. Big appeal for a leg before and the umpire raises his finger. Ashwin takes a review straightaway. Replays show there is an inside edge and the umpire overturns his decision. Ashwin survives. 09.55 IST: WICKET! Edged and gone. It’s a length ball outside off, a leg-cutter, Rahane pokes at it and gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies straight into the hands of Alastair Cook at first slip who makes no mistake. Stuart Broad takes his third wicket. Twin failure for Rahane in this Test match. India 455 & 117/4, lead England 255 by 317 runsIndia v England. Second Test. Day Four. Work to be done #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/2H4YLnoMyk England Cricket (@englandcricket) November 20, 2016Stuart Broad has strained a tendon & one of the small joints in his right foot. He’ll continue to bowl & be assessed after the Test #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/gCkB6hFeFa England Cricket (@englandcricket) November 19, 2016With the lead almost 300, the pitch starting to misbehave, the Indians will fancy their chances to take a 1-0 lead. However, you never know if the tourists put up a fight like they did in the first Test, this game can head either way. How much will Kohli and co. feel is enough to hand over the willow again to the opposition?England were eventually bundled out for 255 and handed a massive 200-run lead. The visitors did well to jolt the home side early as both the openers were sent back cheaply. Anderson then removed Pujara through a peach of a delivery but that was all for them. Kohli and Rahane then kept the English bowlers at bay and made sure they avoid further hiccups. The skipper has got to his fifty and Rahane would be itching to be amongst the runs and will be relieved as he was dropped early by Bairstow. After opting not to enforce the follow on, India lost three quick wickets but captain Kohli and Rahane combined in an unbroken stand of 58 to take the team to 98-3 at the end of the third day, an overall lead of 298.The 28-year-old Kohli, who hit 167 in the first innings, hit six boundaries in his unbeaten 56 and looked in no trouble on a surface which has tested all other batsmen with the turn and variable bounce on offer.last_img read more
