Low crude prices prompt Teck Resources to write off C$910 million at Fort Hills oil sands operation

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享S&P Global Market Intelligence ($):Canadian diversified miner Teck Resources Ltd. swung to a net loss of C$891 million in the fourth quarter of 2019 from a year-ago net profit of C$433 million due to C$999 million in write-downs primarily related to the Fort Hills oil sands operation in Alberta.Teck said Feb. 20 that it declared a noncash impairment charge of C$910 million on Fort Hills amid lower market expectations for future oil prices. The company also booked write-downs of C$75 million on the Cardinal River coal mine, also in Alberta, due to low steelmaking coal prices and C$14 million on the Quebrada Blanca copper mine in Chile due to the short remaining life of the cathode operation. The company booked an EBITDA loss of C$755 million from positive EBITDA of C$1.15 billion a year ago. Revenues slipped to C$2.66 billion from C$3.25 billion.During the quarter, it reported lower output on a yearly basis for all products, with 6.7 million tonnes of steelmaking coal, 71,000 tonnes of copper, 149,000 tonnes of zinc in concentrate, 66,000 tonnes of refined zinc and 3.2 million barrels of bitumen.“We remain confident in the longer-term outlook for our major commodities, however, global economic uncertainty has had a significant negative effect on the prices for our products this year,” Teck said, adding that the new coronavirus outbreak may have a “material” impact on demand for its products and prices. For full-year 2019, Teck’s net profit slumped to C$339 million from C$3.11 billion as EBITDA plunged to C$2.48 billion from C$6.17 billion and revenues sagged to C$11.93 billion from C$12.56 billion.[Karl Decena]More ($): Teck in the red after nearly C$1B in impairment charges for Q4’19 Low crude prices prompt Teck Resources to write off C$910 million at Fort Hills oil sands operationlast_img read more

Two Caldwell men charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery after brawling incident Wednesday morning

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Sylvester Provencio, 21, and Nicholas Reedy, 33, both of Caldwell, have been arrested by the Sumner County Sheriff’s office for aggravated robbery and aggravated battery after a brawling incident that occurred at 1700 S. Mayfield Road, about three miles east of Caldwell at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday.According to a sheriff’s office press release, Gregory Schneider, 53, of Caldwell and Bryan Nispel, 55, of Caldwell were driving home when they noticed a vehicle was struck in the mud. They stopped to help them, but an argument ensued, the report said.Allegedly, Schneider was punched in the face several times by Reedy and fell to the ground. After falling to the ground, Schneider allegedly was kicked and stomped on by both suspects to the point where he lost consciousness while lying face down in the roadway.Nispel was attempting to get to his 2014 Dodge pickup close enough to Schneider so he could pick him up and protect him, when allegedly both suspects jumped in front of the pickup and were struck by Nispel.Allegedly, then the suspects fled the scene by stealing Schneider’s wife’s 2014 Cadillac SUV, valued at $40,000, and left it parked in a yard in Caldwell, the report said. The suspects were located at Reedy’s house after they called E911 wanting to make a report about being run over by Nispel, allegedly. The report then said also during the disturbance, Nispel was hit several times by Provencio while being held down on the ground. Nispel told the Sheriff’s office that he felt in fear for his life as well as Schneider’s during the altercation since he knows both suspects and knew their tendencies to want to fight.Nispel sustained small cuts and bruises to his arms, face and head. He was released from the Caldwell Hospital after receiving treatment for his wounds.Schneider sustained numerous cuts and bruises to his face and body. The doctors at Caldwell Hospital said he suffers from a broken rib, a concussion, and several severe lacerations to his face. The report said his injuries were severe enough that he had to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Allegedly, his injuries were severe enough that he was barely able to tell deputies what happened. The case has been turned over to the Sumner County Attorney’s office which has 48 hours to submit formal charges. Other agencies involved included the Wellington Police Department and the Caldwell Police Department.Follow us on Twitter. Close Forgot password? Please put in your email: Send me my password! This isn’t the first time this has happened with these two. Greg and Bryan are a couple of the nicest people I’ve had the privilege to know, and it is such a travesty that this happened to them. The fact that they called 911 for themselves after they beat a man unconscious blows my mind. I hope those two get what they deserve and sit in jail for a good long time. The two victims, knew of this as well, yet they stopped to HELP. That is what small town, such as Caldwell, folks do. Well in the past, now it makes one not want to stop and help. It’s a darn shame that these THUGS have no respect for anyone or anything. I pray that justice will be served, and they get punished as far as the laws will take them. This is a serious crime and should be recognized as such. Report Reply 0 replies · active 277 weeks ago +27 Vote up Vote down Outraged Mother · 277 weeks ago This is absolutely outrageous! These two “men” have been in fights and other troubles with the law for years! Why they are even free right now that they are able to do this is maddening! Reedy has put several people in the hospital in the past and Provencio has a history of fighting as well.. Do they need to literally kill someone before they are made to do some serious time in prison?! Society needs to stop being lenient with these people and stick them in jail! and not for just a week or two… but years! They need to be punished for what they have done!
